Google Workspace now includes Gemini in all plans: what changes and what it costs
Google now includes Gemini in all Google Workspace plans with a 17-22% price increase. Analysis of the impact for SMBs and the real added value.
Updated on 1 March 2025
Gemini becomes standard in Google Workspace
Since March 2025, Google integrates Gemini artificial intelligence features directly into all Google Workspace Business and Enterprise plans. The Gemini add-on, which cost €20 per user per month as a supplement, disappears. In return, base prices increase by 17 to 22% depending on the plan. For SMBs, this evolution raises a simple question: does Gemini’s added value justify the increase?
New pricing in detail
The Business Starter plan goes from €6 to €7 per user per month. This plan now includes Gemini in Gmail for email drafting and summarization. The Business Standard plan goes from €12 to €14 and includes Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Meet. The Business Plus plan goes from €18 to €22 with the same Gemini features plus advanced security and compliance capabilities.
For existing annual subscriptions, the new pricing applies at the next renewal after March 17, 2025. Flexible (monthly) plans are updated immediately. New subscriptions have been subject to new pricing since January 31, 2025.
What Gemini concretely delivers
In Gmail, Gemini drafts emails from simple instructions, summarizes long threads and suggests contextualized responses. In Google Docs, it generates content, summarizes documents and rephrases text. In Sheets, it analyzes data in natural language and generates formulas. In Meet, it takes notes automatically and generates meeting summaries. In Slides, it creates presentations and generates images.
The Gemini side panel, accessible from all applications, lets you ask questions about your documents, get summaries and generate content without leaving your workflow. This cross-application integration is the real added value compared to generic AI tools.
Financial impact for SMBs
For an SMB with 20 users on the Business Standard plan, the increase represents €40 more per month, or €480 per year. The former Gemini add-on would have cost €400 per month for the same 20 users. Integration into the base plan therefore represents massive savings for businesses that would have adopted Gemini anyway.
For businesses that were not using Gemini, the question is one of adoption. If your teams do not use the AI features, the increase is a cost without return. The key is to train teams and identify high-impact use cases to make the investment worthwhile.
Comparison with the competition
Microsoft 365 offers Copilot as an add-on at €30 per user per month, on top of the base subscription. Google integrates Gemini into the base price starting at €14 per user. For an SMB that wants AI features in its office suite, Google Workspace offers a significantly better value proposition.
This pricing difference is a strong argument for businesses choosing between the two suites. For a full comparison, read our article Google Workspace vs Microsoft 365.
Our recommendation
The price increase is justified if your teams adopt Gemini. Invest in training to maximize return on investment. Identify the 3 to 5 most frequent use cases in your business (email drafting, document summaries, data analysis) and train your teams on these specific cases.
